Shout Out – Dan Milham

The new year often brings about the urge to start fresh. Some people just muse over this idea, and others are actually brave enough to do it. Dan Milham is one of these people. Picture this – for 31 years you have done one thing and only that thing. Picture that one thing being a weatherman for a local news station in a city you love. Picture that city as one of the most memorable and well known cities in the United States. Picture retiring from the only job you have ever known to open your own Photography business so that you can bring images of your beloved city to the world. Picture New Orleans.

Dan Milham, founder of Picture New Orleans, is all this and more. At age 63, Dan is starting a new life. One filled with some of the most beautiful images I have seen to date. His talent goes far beyond that of your typical photographer. Dan has a vision. It is one filled with outstanding colors, and painterly qualities. You see, after Dan goes out into his beloved city to capture it’s vibe, he then takes his images one step further to bring you the beauty he sees inside his head.

Quote Dan: “I print them on canvas, usually very large, after making whatever changes to the image that I think work to enhance and adding "painter" type effects. I’ve used my digital darkroom, some modern software and my drawing techniques to turn them in to the finished art you see. I love to take pictures in New Orleans and South Louisiana but I display the best from wherever I’ve been able to shoot. I’ve also done some portrait work for friends in hopes of generating some business. I’m excited to be entering a new and enjoyable phase of life and to have more time to spend with my new granddaughter.

So it is with a hearty new year shout that this week’s Shout Out goes to Dan Milham! Congratulations on your new life Dan! You show us all that it’s never too late to start fresh.

Dan I love the picture. New Orleans will always give you something great to shoot. The people, the French quarter. The people. Good Luck in your new career. I look forward to seeing more of your work.
