Shout Out – Bram Pitoyo

When I asked Bram Pitoyo to be this week’s shout out, I knew that he was involved in a lot of activities. This thought however didn’t hit home with me until he sent me a list of 14 links to projects he was involved in and websites he wrote for and an additional 18 links of people who inspired him. As I was trying to figure out how to sum up Bram and his 32 links, I was hit with one of his messages on Twitter that did all of the summation for me.

Having Bram in your life in some way is a constant "interesting experience." My experience started with Bram’s Typography articles on Designer-Daily.com. His writing was superb. You could tell there was passion behind his words and not only did he love typography but he loved the written word and was a language enthusiast. Being a bit of a type, and vocabulary junkie myself I felt an instant connection with Bram. After checking out his portfolio I found out that his design work was just as classy, clean, and beautiful to behold as I found his articles to be. And, when I followed his messages on Twitter, what I really came to love about him was his undying spirit and never ending motivation to move people. He is constantly going like the Energizer Bunny and doing his best to include people in his mix of involvement.

After reading through the bio that he sent me and some of his site, I ended up taking a quote from his site over his bio because that is what spoke to me the most. It not only described Bram, it described what I believe to be the soul of all amazing designers like him.

Quote Bram: "It’s about wisdom and using insights meaningfully. Charting the stars and cutting through the data to find a shining Stella. It’s about war against the temptation to do it easier for easy’s sake. About spiritually fulfilling works that makes the heart pound. It’s about the magic in the sauce. The excellence in the effort. Doing it with more empathy and less assembly code. It’s about more elegant solutions. And successes that are measured by how much I can scare myself every hour, and how much “A-ha’s” I get from it."

Bram Pitoyo is what I like to call a work-of-art human being. Beauty surrounds him because he creates beauty in his surroundings. When you are near him or his work, you can’t help from feeling like you are on the edge of something amazing. He makes you want to be a better person and artist, and you will thank him for the interesting experience. Because of this and all he does for others, he is today’s Shout Out. :D

  1. Bram Pitoyo says:

I’m humbled! You captured this more succinctly than I ever could. Thank you.

On another note, I didn’t know that you found my writing first through Designer Daily? Was that true? Blogging for them was a lot of fun, and I hope to write more typography related things in the future.
