Mimobot Product Review & Giveaway!
If you are a regular follower of this site, then you will remember that I talked about these little guys just after I came home from the Photoshop World conference. Well, I am going to talk about them again a little more in depth today because much to my delight, the CEO of the Mimobot company, Evan, is generously allowing me to give away a 4 gig Mimobot of my choice!
But, I had no idea which one to choose! They all rocked in my book. So, a few weeks ago I turned to my Twitter followers and held a vote to see which Mimobot I was going to be giving away and let me tell you, it was a riot. When I tell you that it pays to follow me in Twitter, I really mean it. I narrowed the selection down to four Mimos and told my followers to make as much noise as they could for their choice. The Mimo that had the most noise attached to it’s name would be the one given away on my site. Before I knew it, people were chanting, cheering and even drawing pictures. It was a blast and I’d really like to thank everyone that joined in. That was a great day! I never told anyone then what the decided vote was so without further suspense…
I give you the winning Mimobot:
Swirl
Now, if you’re not familiar with what Mimobots are, let me tell you. Mimobots are delicious little collector edition USB drives. Only 2000 were made of the one you see above and they are almost all gone. But another thing that makes them special is that they come with around 500mbs of goodies called Mimory. Typically, the Mimory is a mix of games, avatars, wallpaper, screensavers, and an issue of Mimozine, the company’s magazine that is the only magazine delivered by USB drive. Every so often you will also find a program that you can install that will play a sound when you insert and eject your Mimobot. The Swirl Mimobot comes with all of this and all of it is Mac & PC compatible. What you choose to do with the Mimory is up to you.
I personally have no need for the avatars or wallpaper because I make my own, however the ones that come with Swirl are beautiful to look at. One thing I did notice about the wallpapers is that you can tell they were designed by and for Mac users as on most of them compliment the Mac OS layout. There are only a few wallpapers that would work well with the Windows layout, and even though I don’t need them, I’d like to see more of a balance. But, like I said, the designs are very well done and if you click the pic of Swirl above, you can see some samples of what I am talking about. Also, I love the screensavers and I use them.
The games are fun and perfect for when I want to take a break. One of them is like a combo of the ever popular Tetris and Bejeweled. So, as you can imagine I am now hooked on this game. Try as I might though, I can’t get past level 19. The other game is best played with a mouse as it’s more of a point and click kind of thing. I work on a laptop, and all laptop users know, the track pad is not very game friendly. Mostly, I don’t play the second game, but it’s a cute game of planting and pollinating flowers while trying to keep stormy Swirl from destroying them.
I get a kick out of the sound program and the Mimozine, which is not only informative but also entertaining, I also find to be a plus. So, what I did with the Mimory, is take it off and store it on my 400gig external hard drive so that I would always have it. Except for the games, those are right on my desktop.
As for the drive itself, they are painted, gorgeous and USB 2.0 compatible. The thing to know about them though, is that the lids are really tight and hard to get on and off at first, but they loosen up after a while.
But I know by now, you all are wondering when I’m going to shut up about it and get to the contest already, right?
So here are the rules:
- You must add a comment below this specific post and say "Make mine a Mimobot!" somewhere in the comment.
- You may only comment one time. If I see any duplicate ISP numbers I will toss them all – gotta play fair!
- You must make sure to include a valid email address THAT YOU CHECK as this is how I’ll be contacting the winner.
Now, unfortunately, I don’t have a fancy comment counter so I’ll be replying to each and every comment as they come in and giving you all a number. I will then be using random.org to draw the winner on Monday. The contest will be open all weekend and will officially close at 12 midnight CST on Sunday. Once the winner is drawn, I will announce it here and in a separate post and then email the winner to receive the shipping information which I will then pass on to the Mimobot company.
Reguarding shipping – please note this information from the Mimobot site:
US winners: if you live in the US, your prize will ship free of charge via UPS Ground. You’ll receive an email once the package ships with a tracking number. UPS Ground takes 1 to 6 business days, depending on the shipping address.
Non-US winners: if you don’t live in the US, three options are available:
- USPS First Class: free of charge, no tracking number, no insurance, delivery time varies depending on the shipping address.
