Shout Out – Angela Woo

There is a particular store that I do my absolute best to stay out of. Not because it’s a bad store, but because I would be beyond broke in seconds if I allowed myself to walk through the front doors. This store is the scrapbooking store. A lot of people, though, don’t understand why I turn into a five year old on Christmas morning when I am surrounded by all those scrapbooking goodies. But scrapbooking really appeals to my designing eyes. It’s about playing with tons of brightly colored paper, filled with fanciful designs. You get to create fun layouts and find beautiful ways to display your pictures. And isn’t that what designers usually do anyway?

Angela Woo knows exactly what I’m talking about. She is a scrapbook designer. But not the kind you might think. Although I’m sure she has a few books of her own about her two sons and the high school sweet-heart that she married, her scrapbook designs start on her computer. You see, Angela is a designer of scrapbook materials. She designs all of those brightly colored papers with fanciful designs that you would find in a scrapbooking store. And let me tell you, they are gorgeous!

Here, take a look:

What amazes me about Angela is that, even after years of traditional art classes in high school she actually began her career as a certified Make-Up Artist. But, I guess the human canvases were just not enough for her. Too small and too limited for Angela’s ever expanding imagination. So, before too long she moved on to Photoshop and Illustrator and let her inner designer run wild. Now, on a regular basis she is making beautiful creations that capture the hearts of scrapbookers world wide. And if you click the pic above, you can see more of her beautiful work and just how much effort goes into the behind-the-scenes production of these intricate designs. All of them are are crisp, clean, attractive and the attention to detail is phenomenal. And Angela loves every minute of it, and if you ask me, she is just as adorable as her designs.

Quote Angela: "I love doing what I do because it allows me creative freedom to draw and illustrate and to create according to how inspired I am in any given moment. I was a full time stay-at-home mom for 3 years and it’s easy to lose a part of your identity when you focus so much of your time and energy into raising children. With design, I have been able to regain portions of my previous life and it allows me to raise my kids and spend time with my family without compromises. I have the best of both worlds – what’s there not to love??"

Personally, I can’t find anything not to love about Angela or her work. I adore them both! So Angela Woo, you are today’s Shout Out because your work is OUTSTANDING!

Those are some fun designs. I haven’t gotten into digital scrapping much. I still have too much paper products to use first. ;)

I love digital scrapbooking, so much I wrote a post for Thrifty Mommy about it here: http://www.blisstree.com/thriftymommy/save-time-and-money-with-digital-scrapbooking

Thanks for introducing me to another great designer – and trust me, digital supplies are even EASIER to indulge in. You can buy them at all hours of the day and night, don’t have to wait for them to be delivered, and they take no space to store. (well, virtual space, true – but they make 1 terabyte EHDs now that are reasonably priced…)
