Shout Out – Curtis McHale

That crazy guy you see purposely falling over the waterfall is my Twitter buddy Curtis McHale. Currently he is mending from a dislocated shoulder from one of his waterfall adventures. However, having his arm literally ripped out doesn’t stop him. In fact, he can’t wait to get back out on the rapids again. This got me to thinking, how many of us have stopped having adventures or never tried something again just because something went wrong? Too many to count I would bet. But this idea never seems to cross Curtis’s mind.

Quote Curtis: "I love being way out in the bush doing stupid things in plastic boats or climbing on the end of a rope or…well as long as it looks crazy and stupid I’m in. You can see me do stupid stuff at www.fraservalleywhitewater.com all the time."

He may call himself crazy, but I happen to think that his sense of never letting anything stop him from doing what he wants to do, is a pretty sane idea. Not many of can say that we live without fear. Not many of us push ourselves over waterfalls real or otherwise.

When Curtis isn’t out testing the rapids with his wife, he is plugged into a computer pushing the limits of code.

Quote continued: "I currently work at www.insightforliving.ca doing the e-commerce, html emails, and working on SEO and content. I’m really busy, but I love it. I love working on cool new projects. I love programming and making cool stuff happen on sites. I suppose ultimately it’s just fun to design nice stuff and see people happy."

And this leads me to another lesson we can all learn from Curtis – giving of self. He loves helping people out. He is constantly offering to teach people through Twitter and through the Blellow community how to run their websites more efficiently. Anytime someone sends out a distress call, Curtis is one of the first to answer even when he is super swamped with his own work.

Curtis is one of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. And his thirst for adventure and pushing himself to the limits is something I truly admire. He has taught me and many others to brave the rapids of web design regardless of things getting potentially broken. Because after all, things can be fixed, shoulders will mend, and the waters of adventure never run dry.

Curtis McHale I salute you, your spirit, and all you do for others. Because of that, you are today’s Shout Out! :D

Wow thanks. I didn’t even think I was that nice. Totally emailing this link to my wife so she can see how nice I am :-) . Ah my sense of humour that doesn’t always transfer to online stuff.

    Anyway thanks.

Wow, I didn’t know Curtis was such a wild and crazy guy! ;-) I love the encouraging message in your shout-out, Firgs. Curtis is a great example of fearless adventure and generosity. Although I won’t be throwing myself over rapids any time soon, I’d like to apply his sense of adventure to other pursuits (the kind that won’t require a trip to the emergency room). ;-)
