Product Review – Ultra Edit

I cannot live without UltraEdit.  It is an excellent cross between “old school” text editors, a coding interface, and the DOS command line.

In my position as a geospatial technician, my day-to-day tasks include tracking data; writing batches to move or copy sheets; creating and editing geospatial metadata that is most often in XML format; and being able to ingest all kinds of files into other formats.  UltraEdit provides multiple features that make my daily tasks much easier.

· Column mode enables me to quickly create batch files or edit the one missing character in a list.

· DOS command enables me to output data to a text file

· Code colorization options enable me to read XML files easier

· The find and replace is extremely powerful, it even accepts regular expressions

· Spell check is customizable and easy to access

Most importantly, it is a stable program that always responds rapidly, even when I throw huge files its way.

The pricing is very reasonable, especially with the lifetime upgrades.  Each new upgrade adds more features and improves my favorites.  When I say “feature” I do not mean “bug” that was unfixable and is now called a “feature” as happens with several of the larger software companies.

The one time I had a problem installing on a new computer, technical support was very helpful and expeditiously resolved my problem.

If you are looking for a more powerful text editor, or simply a better coding environment, definitely click the pic and check out this product from IDM Computer Solutions.
